No one is so untouched by brokenness that they cannot benefit from counseling. And no one is so broken that they are beyond help.
It took me a long time to believe those truths. I spent most of my teenage and young adult years toggling between the lies that I was too broken and beyond help or that I could be perfect enough not to need help. The truth at both extremes was that I desperately wanted someone to break through my defenses and help me release my tight grip on my pain and attempts to control…to show me hope and healing were possible.
I long for people to not just survive, but to thrive. In my office, you can expect me to create a comfortable space for you to be yourself without fear of judgment. You can trust I will empathically listen to and support you in accomplishing your therapeutic goals. I will gently question assumptions (when appropriate). I also believe there is value in some playfulness and humor within the therapeutic relationship.
I have a passion for sharing what I’ve learned with others. As a DBT skills trainer, I facilitate skills groups where clients can learn practical ways of managing emotional reactions in a class-like setting. As an individual therapist, I help clients understand the mind-body connection and how to process painful experiences from a holistic approach.
While I tend to draw from interpersonal, emotionally-focused, and somatic models of therapy, I tailor my approach to meet each person’s unique story and different needs. Whether you have been in counseling for years or you are thinking about counseling for the first time, I would be privileged to help you discover your dignity and live in confidence.
