From an early age, I remember being scared. I was scared people didn’t like me, scared to fail, scared to hurt someone else’s feelings. On the outside, I had it all together. On the inside, I was scared and anxious. When my life began to crumble in college, I sat with a counselor who made me feel safe, seen and known, and it changed everything. She saw the difficult parts of me and the wonderful parts of me and held it all. I still had to do some really hard work, but I knew that from then on I wanted to give other people that same feeling of safety and knownness.
It is so important to me that someone feels safe in my office. Safe to share the parts of their story that no one else knows. Safe to explore the joys and struggles of life. Safe to grieve the harms that have been done to them or by them.
My therapeutic approach is full of empathy and practical solutions, all the while maintaining a trauma lens. Although I am trained in CBT, IFS and EFFT, I tailor my approach based on the needs of the person in front of me. I seek to use creative forms of therapy, bringing art and movement whenever it is helpful and appropriate. I work primarily with adolescents and women who are struggling with things like anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, parenting issues, social skills and life transitions. I have spent a lot of time with children struggling with anxiety and coaching parents on how to best meet the needs of their child and the whole family system. I particularly love sitting with young moms working on navigating the challenges of balancing motherhood and all that comes with that.
